Looking to make your Eid celebration better than ever? Here are my tips for the perfect Eid BBQ!
Eid allows me to do one of my favourite things: DECORATE! I love using my Eid BBQ’s to decorate my house from inside and out. It really helps add to the festive feeling which is present when my family and friends all unite after a long month of worship, fasting and charity. Decorations are a physical reminder that the Eid celebration is near. If you find the idea of decorating too daunting, try to make a fun family activity out of it by involving your kids. You might find this allows every member of the family to bring their own personal touch, making the decorations look that much more festive and creative. It’s always great to use a variety of decor such as streamers, decorative lights, balloons, crescent moons and more. And if your non-Muslim neighbours ask why you are decorating, here is a great opportunity to teach them about Ramadan and Eid, and it may also be a chance to invite them to your celebration!
Plan Your Meals
Preparing a BBQ is a task with many steps on any normal occasion, but with so many other things to handle for Eid like gift giving, family get-togethers, going to mosque and everything in between, planning will help make sure your BBQ goes smoothly. It would be useful to note how many people are coming to your party and what kind of dishes attendees will be able to enjoy (noting any allergies is key). By planning ahead, you will ensure that you have more than enough food and you can even use this list to start the BBQ a few hours ahead so when your guests arrive the meals are ready! Not only will you feel more relaxed that you are ready to serve your guests, but you will find the event more enjoyable since you can spend quality time with them.
Although you may feel like indulging in sugar cravings after a long month of fasting, use the self-discipline you have achieved over the past month to select more healthier choices which your body will thank you for down the line. I love having no sugar added juices since I find they still taste delicious but don’t leave me with fluctuating energy levels afterwards. They can be a great source of fruits and vegetables as well as essential nutrients such as vitamin C, D and E to name a few. Be sure to serve plenty of water as it will help your body to readjust to a normal eating schedule and keep you hydrated on a hot day!
Create Engaging Activities
My family is always looking for new and exciting activities to add to our Eid BBQ’s to make them more memorable! We love setting up fun activities for guests of all ages, such as a cricket game at our local park, which allows for younger children to enjoy the playground. Family walks around the neighbourhood are a great way to get some exercise while spending some quality time together. And let’s not forget about fun arts and crafts activities for kids to do such as Islamic coloring books, decorating an Eid card and making an Eid decoration to take home!
Which of these tips do you find useful for your own Eid BBQ and what are some of your tips? Let me know in the comments section.
